ARCTIC IMAGES is an image bank of photographer Ragnar Th. Sigurðsson, located in Iceland.
Ragnar Th.Sigurðsson specialises in photography of nature and travel in the Arctic,
including Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and the Northwest Territories/Nunavut of Canada.
He reached the North Pole in 1995. Among his motives in an archive of 200,000 photos
are geological formations in Iceland, volcanoes, geothermal activity,
waterfalls and glaciers, wildlife and the flora.

RAGNAR TH. SIGURDSSO

RAGNAR TH.SIGURÐSSON ( b. 1958 ) is a professional photographer, educated in Sweden and Iceland. He started as a news photographer in 1975 but has had his own studio and graphic-work firm since 1985. He uses computerised scanning ( Macintosh G4 and SCITEX Ever Smart Supreme scanner ) equipment and produces his own stock. He pioneered the use of computers and digital equipment in Iceland. Ragnar also takes on assignment deliveries. All assignment photos or stock photos can be expedited on the Internet or CD ROM.
Ragnar masters a broad range of work, including studio advertising photography, illustrations of travel publications, annual reports and covering of official arrangements. He has for example covered many events arranged by the Export Council of Iceland, the Scientific Council of Iceland and the President of Iceland and well as numerous banks, corporations and institutions. He has provided illustrations for a number of books, calendars and magazines.


In 1994 he became associated with Tony Stone Images Ltd ( Getty Images ) in Gr.Britain.

  Ragnar Th. Sigurðsson and ARI TRAUSTI GUDMUNDSSON ( b. 1948 ) who is a free-lance writer, TV-producer and geophysicist (educated in Norway and Iceland) accept assignments involving photography and writing on subjects like volcanism, geothermal activity and utilisation, geologial or glaciological phenomena plus wilderness travel in the Arctic.

In 1995, he published a well-received book and awarded on Icelandic glaciers with Ari Trausti Guðmundsson. In 1996, he and Ari Trausti published a bestseller on the recent volcanic, subglacial activity in the Vatnajökull ice cap. In 2000 the due made one more book, this time on Reykjavík, the nation´s capital in context with Reykjavík being one of the cultural cities of Europe that year


Ragnar Th. Sigurdsson has participated in many photographic exhibitions and in 1996, he held a large exhibition in the Kópavogur Art Museum and the following year another one in Nuuk, Greenland, and in the Faroe Islands in 1999. Ragnar has participated in dozens of joint exhibitions with other Icelandic photographers. In 1997, the Icelandic TV made a documentary programme on Ragnar and his work. Ragnar has received three CLIO awards.


They founded the publishing firm ARCTIC BOOKS in 1996 and their first book was Vatnajökull; ice on fire, on the recent volcanic activity in the Vatnajökull ice cap and the subsequent catastrophuic flood. In 2000 the firm published a widely acclaimed book on Reykjavík (Into a new millennium).
